'Man in the Iron Lung' dies
Paul Alexander of the United States. In 1952, when he was only 6, he contracted polio. Paul's entire body is paralyzed from the neck down due to this disease. Because of this, the light of the world could not breathe freely in the air. But 'Polio Paul' wanted to live. So on the advice of doctors, he was kept inside a metal cylinder, where he had to spend the rest of his life. 'Hello' is being called - because the 'Man in the Iron Lung' is no longer in custody.
78-year-old Paul died last Monday (March 11) in a Dallas hospital in the United States. His long-time friend Daniel Spinks said that Alexander was recently hospitalized with Covid-19. But he said he did not know the cause of his death. AP news.
His brother Philip Alexander said of Paul that he was an 'incredible' role model. During this time Paul went to college and became a lawyer. Wrote his memoirs while palisade. He wrote the book with a pen in his mouth. His book is called 'Three Minutes for a Dog: My Life in an Iron Lung'. It took him five years to write this 155-page book.
A man spent 600 pounds inside an 'iron lung' not for one day or two, but for more than seven decades.In the meantime, he has written his name in the Guinness World Records. Last March, Paul was recognized by Guinness as the world's longest living iron lung patient.
The largest polio outbreak occurred in the United States in 1952. At that time, more than 58 thousand people were infected with polio in the country. Most of the victims were children. Paul contracted polio that year. Later in 1955 came the polio vaccine.
The 'Man in the Iron Lung' had to face many obstacles since his childhood due to polio. Paul is placed inside a capsule-shaped device (iron lung) to help him breathe. The capsule covers the patient's entire body except the head. The device acts as an artificial lung for Paul. Even with improved technology later, Paul was reluctant to give up this iron lung.
Even though his entire body was paralyzed, his physical disability did not stop him from pursuing education. He was kept alive by emptying the air inside the metal box and adding oxygen. Paul's limp body may have died. But people like Paul never die. Decades after decades Polio Paula became an angel of inspiration for the 'sick' people. Paul Alexander came to conquer all challenges. To show people that nothing is impossible.
