A 7-year-old girl died in a boat accident in France

A seven-year-old girl has died after a boat carrying migrants capsized in French waters while trying to reach the English Channel.

Officials told French media there were 16 migrants on the boat. The boat sank a few kilometers off the northern coast.

The boat was not big enough to carry more people, local authorities said in a statement.

Authorities said the girl's parents were on the boat with three other children. They were taken to a hospital in Dunkirk.

Three migrants lost their lives last Wednesday while crossing the English Channel on Tuesday. Their boat was also in trouble.

This is also one of the few events throughout the day. 249 people were rescued that day.

Statistics from the UK Home Office say that more than 2,000 immigrants have gone to the country so far this year.
