Judge dismisses Elon Musk's lawsuit against groups that cataloged racist content in X

The case was dismissed under the state's anti-slap law, which prohibits harassment lawsuits aimed at punishing exercise.

In his decision, U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer wrote, ``In some cases, it is unclear what is at the heart of the case, and one can only infer the plaintiff's true purpose by reading between the lines of the complaint.'' I can do that.'' “Other times, complaints about an issue are so blatant and loud that their purpose is unmistakable. This case represents the latter situation. This case concerns punishment for the defendant's statements. ”

The dismissal was not unexpected. At a hearing last month, Breyer called parts of Musk's lawsuit "one of the laziest stretches of law I've ever heard." Breyer also questioned Musk's lawyers about why the company did not file a defamation lawsuit, given that it believed CCDH had made false and damaging claims in its report.

"They're not filing a defamation suit," Breyer said. "Now you tell me that's actually better than the defamatory allegations. But of course not.

Mr. Musk, who describes himself as a "free speech absolutist," did not immediately comment publicly on the ruling. Musk tweeted last week, "CCDH is a truly evil organization that only wants to destroy the First Amendment under the guise of good deeds!"

CCDH welcomes the ruling, and the CEO CEO Imran Ahmed said he hopes the ruling will encourage other organizations. Researchers hold social media companies accountable. Roberta Kaplan, CCDH's attorney in the case, praised the decision as an affirmation of the organization's mission.
