Picasso museum opens in Paris

The Picasso Museum is reopening in Paris. The largest collection of paintings by famous Spanish artist Pablo Picasso will be opened to visitors from Tuesday. For the first time, a tribute is being paid to Picasso's companion artist Francois Gilot.

The museum's permanent collection now includes 400 selected artworks by Pablo Picasso. These works of art will be displayed in 22 rooms of the museum. These have been selected from the nearly 200,000 works of art in the museum's collection. The collection includes 13,000 works of art completed by Picasso during his lifetime.

It is said that the artworks of every period from the beginning of Picasso's painting life to his death in 1973 are only in this museum. A part of the museum is called laboratory. There are countless sculptures made by Picasso. There is nothing that Picasso did not use in the creation of these sculptures, starting from cardboard, metal, wood, cigarette packets.

Another section houses Picasso's World War II paintings. Among them is the sculpture named 'Man with the Ship', which has become a symbol of resistance.

Meanwhile, for the first time in honor of Francois Gilot, an entire room of the museum has been dedicated to his artwork. François Zillo died in June 2023 at the age of 101. He was Picasso's companion for almost a decade until 1953. They have two children. François Zillot also established himself as an artist.

In 1965, a book called 'Living with Picasso' written by Francois Gilot was published. Through that book, he revealed various aspects of Picasso's life.

Picasso Museum director Cecile Debre said, 2023 was the 50th anniversary of Picasso's death. On this occasion many of his paintings are exhibited in different countries of the world.

This museum was opened in Paris in 1985 with the artworks of Pablo Picasso. However, the museum was closed to visitors several times for repairs and expansion.
